OVERVIEW OF SERVICES

Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul mission outreach to local faith congregations to provide whole person health ministry through parish nursing services.

Parish nurses are registered nurses on staff in local churches, performing independent, professional nursing practice in the provision of faith-based, whole-person focused, community health nursing services. These services are performed at the church or during home/nursing home/hospital visits.

Parish nurses assist in the provision of health and wellness education and resources to church/school staff and congregation members. Parish nurses lead Health Ministry Committee of volunteers in the planning, implementation and evaluation of Health Ministry Activities: group education sessions/workshops on a variety of topics pertaining to the health of body, mind and spirit; health screenings (blood pressure, blood glucose, cholesterol), flu immunization clinics; support groups; and the training of volunteers to give safe and effective respite care services.

Parish nurses provide personal health counseling assistance, act as resource/referral liaisons for church and community services; act as advocate/navigator in the accessing and utilization of health and human services and programs of the church and local community; provide spiritual support and interventions in promoting the healing of body, mind and spirit for optimal health and well being.
