Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation

O’Connor Hospital offers a comprehensive cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation program, to help patients who have cardiovascular or pulmonary disease. Staffed by critical-care nurses and exercise physiologists, the program covers physical conditioning, nutritional counseling and stress reduction, with an emphasis on prevention of recurrence.

The cardiac rehabilitation program consists of education and exercise sessions over a pre-specified period of time. The program also offers a maintenance program for patients who wish to continue their exercise under the guidance of exercise physiologists.

The pulmonary rehabilitation program offers a comprehensive approach to managing chronic lung disease. The program includes a multi-disciplinary approach to exercise therapy and education.

ICD Support Group

In addition, O’Connor sponsors an innovative ICD Support Group for patients with internal cardiovertor defibrillators. O’Connor electrophysiologists serve as consultants to the volunteer nurse coordinator in efforts to help patients adapt to lifestyle constraints imposed by having a defibrillator, such as limitations on driving or work. The support group is open to all persons with defibrillators and their family members. The ICD support group is held the third Wednesday of every other month from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. at O’Connor Hospital in Dining Rooms A&B.
