Medical Benefits
As part of the Daughters of Charity Health System (DCHS), O'Connor offers medical coverage to help protect you and your family from the high cost of health care, especially in the event of a serious illness or injury. Our plan also helps control rising health care costs.
Your medical coverage options are:
- Blue Shield HMO-covered in full
- Blue Shield PPO-the majority of costs are paid by O'Connor. You pay a portion.
Dental Benefits
Several different dental plans are available for you and your eligible dependents. O'Connor covers the cost of the basic Dental Plan in full. Additional plans with enhanced coverage are offered at a minimal cost to associates.
Vision Benefits
O'Connor offers a comprehensive vision plan to help cover the cost of eye exams, eyeglass frames, and eyeglass or contact lenses. This option is covered in full.
Flexible Spending Accounts
Your medical, dental and vision plan benefits will cover a large part of your health care expenses. In addition, you may have bills for health care services that you will have to pay out of your own pocket. O'Connor offers Flexible Spending Accounts so you can set aside money on a pre-tax basis to help pay for unreimbursed eligible health care expenses, dependent care expenses or both:
- Health Care Spending Account-allows you to pay for certain health care expenses not covered by insurance on a pre-tax basis (e.g., deductibles and co-pays).
- Dependent Care Spending Account-allows you to pay for certain dependent care expenses on a pre-tax basis while you, or you and your spouse, work.
Life and AD&D Insurance
Life Insurance for You
Life insurance can help provide your family with financial security in the event of your death. At no cost to you, O'Connor pays the minimum of $10,000 and up to one times your annual base rate. In addition, we offer life insurance at two, three, four and five times your base pay, as well as a $50,000 coverage option. O'Connor pays a portion of the cost and you pay a premium on a greatly reduced amount.
Life Insurance for Your Dependents
We offer several dependent life insurance options to insure the lives of your spouse (or domestic partner) and your eligible child(ren) at reduced group rates. You are the beneficiary for any dependent life insurance you elect.
Accidental Death and Dismemberment Insurance (AD&D)
To protect you and your loved ones in case of an accidental death or dismemberment, you have the option to elect AD&D coverage. This insurance pays you or your beneficiaries a benefit in the event of your accidental death, dismemberment or paralysis. This is an optional benefit offered at reduced group rates.
Disability and Retirement Benefits
Long-Term Disability
You can protect yourself against loss of income due to disability through the Long-Term Disability (LTD) Plan. If you are enrolled and become disabled due to an illness or injury, you may be eligible to receive LTD benefits, which replace a portion of your lost income. O'Connor Hospital pays 100 percent of premium up to 50 percent of base pay. Additional options are offered.
Retirement Plan
If you are vested (five years of service and 1,000 hours in each of those years), the plan provides you with a monthly pension starting at age 65, or reduced monthly pension starting as early as age 55. Being vested, the plan will provide you with a monthly pension if you become permanently disabled, regardless of your age, or death benefit payable to your named beneficiary, if you die before starting your monthly pension. The full cost of the plan is paid by DCHS.
Retirement Savings Account
The savings plan 403B is a voluntary payroll deduction retirement program under which you may elect to make pre-tax contributions to your own retirement savings account. Deductions are made from your pay before federal or state income taxes are deducted, and any investment returns grow tax deferred until withdrawn. After you have satisfied a waiting period, O'Connor will contribute 35 cents to every dollar you contribute up to 5% of your salary. You control the investment of your retirement savings account by selecting from among the plan's investment options with Diversified Investments. Professional financial advisors are on-site to help associates manage their investments.
