O’Connor Hospital Installs Revolutionary New MR Technology to Better Serve the Community

San Jose, CA - O’Connor Hospital is pleased to announce the installation of the Siemens MAGNETOM Avanto – a revolutionary new MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) scanner that will enable radiologists to obtain the highest resolution full-body images faster, helping physicians to diagnose and treat patients more effectively.

MAGNETOM Avanto’s inviting design and smaller dimensions make it more accessible for patients, and faster scanning times and feet-first entries alleviate anxiety for those who are uncomfortable in small spaces.
Additionally, the system features AudioComfort, reducing acoustical noise by up to 97 percent.

“Diagnostic imaging is an extremely important foundation for modern healthcare delivery,” said Charles Griffin, MD, medical director of Imaging Services. “With the installation of this imaging equipment, O’Connor Hospital continues our commitment to providing patients and referring physicians of the San Jose and South Bay communities with superior diagnostic and healthcare services.”

The MAGNETOM Avanto is Siemens Medical Solutions’ newest 1.5 Tesla Magnetic Resonance (MR) system, and the first product to incorporate Siemens revolutionary Total imaging matrix (Tim™) technology. MR imaging is a very safe, general imaging tool that does not utilize ionizing radiation and therefore has no known long-term health risks.  MR provides high-resolution and superior soft tissue detail images and functional data particularly useful in diagnosis of head and spine disease, and musculoskeletal pathology including joints, soft tissues and bones.

“In addition to more sophisticated and detailed body imaging, this scanner provides an opportunity to expand our capabilities in all imaging areas and take our clinical efforts to the next level,” said Barbara Pardini, director of Imaging Services.
