2006 Oct Largest Wound Care Clinic in CA

October 3, 2006

San Jose, CA – It’s bothersome to get a wound, but it’s critical when that wound won’t heal. O’Connor Hospital’s Wound Care Clinic (WCC) – nationally recognized as a training site for doctors and nurses across the country – provides comprehensive care for people suffering from non-healing wounds, including diabetic, venous, pressure and traumatic wounds.

O’Connor’s WCC is northern California’s largest, and to accommodate the needs of its patients, a brand-new facility opened Tuesday, September 26th. The new building, located at 125 Ciro Ave. Suite 201, is across the street from the WCC’s former home in O’Connor Hospital. The clinic features 20 private rooms with state-of-the-art equipment, including two overhead lifts with 600-pound capacity that allow doctors to move larger patients more safely.

Ten physicians – three of whom have been at the clinic since its introduction at O’Connor over a decade ago – nurses, therapists and other medical professionals use the latest and most advanced treatments to help patients’ wounds heal.

The clinic specializes in the use of Apligraf, a skin-like product used on such wounds as venous leg ulcers and diabetic foot ulcers to help speed up the healing process. Like human skin, Apligraf consists of living cells and structural proteins. It is placed over the wound to protect further damage, and has been found to increase the chances of wound closure while decreasing the time to closure.

“Anyone with a non-healing wound that has been present for more than two weeks is encouraged to call our clinic. It is also recommended that diabetic patients contact our Wound Care Clinic for evaluation of any wound,” said Clinical Manager Theresa Cetani, R.N.

The Wound Care Clinic will be hosting an open house for the general public on Wednesday, November 15th from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. If you have further questions on O’Connor’s Wound Care Clinic, please call Jena Eidschun, Wound Care Clinic Business Manager, at 408-947-2804.
